IEEE Western Saudi Arabia Section hosted three training workshops for Post-Secondary Non-Tertiary Educator on October 9th, 2018.

The event was organized by IEEE Western Saudi Arabia Section in collaboration with International Technical College at Jeddah – LAUREATE.

IEEE volunteers were Dr. Samy Ghania, Associate Professor at the College of Engineering at the University of Jeddah and Dr. Khaled Mahmoud, Associate Professor at the College of Engineering at the University of Jeddah.

Dr. Samy started by a one-hour introductory level workshop on a “Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) For PLC and SCADA Integration”. After introducing the audience to the concept of PLC and SCADA, Dr. Samy demonstrated a real-life simulation on Siemens TIA software. Next workshop was another one-hour workshop on Renewable Energy and its sources.

Dr. Khaled Mahmoud volunteered to introduce the attending Educators and Professionals on the concept of renewable energy and its latest discoveries. He introduced them to different sources of renewable energy including Geothermal, Wind and Solar. A comparison among each source and the other was done according to latest statistics and innovations in the field of renewable energy. The last session was about mechatronics and its applications by Dr. Khaled Mahmoud. The workshop gives a good background about mechatronic systems, its modeling, its components and some applications of utilizing mechatronic systems to achieve a certain performance.

Forty educators and industry professionals from different academic institution or companies and cities in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia registered and attended the training at the International Technical College at Jeddah – LAUREATE.

The event was also shared online on the IEEE Western Saudi Arabia Virtual Meeting Room with another group of interested attendees.

Based on attendees’ feedback after the event, more than 85% were very much satisfied with the event, the workshop content and found the topics helpful to them.

This event was the first technical collaboration between IEEE Western Saudi Arabia Section and the International Technical College at Jeddah – LAUREATE with great support from Dean, Dr. Faris Gorashi and Mr. Mamdouh Nouri, Director of Administration and Academic Support at ITC College at Jeddah – LAUREATE.
