IEEE Unveils Webinar Series Empowering The Green Tech Revolution: From Design to Deployment

To address the pressing issue of climate change, the IEEE Technology Center for Climate (ITCC), headquartered at the global IEEE office in Vienna, Austria, has kickstarted a webinar series that explores how technology contributes to climate goals and sustainability. Launched in September 2023, “Empowering The Green Tech Revolution: From Design to Deployment” promises to be an indispensable resource for thought leaders and experts working together in thought-provoking, community, and partnership-building events.

The series of webinars is organized in collaboration with Reuters Events, a global leader in event management and outreach. Two webinars have already unfolded in September and October, drawing an audience of approximately 2,000 top-tier professionals.

On 13 September, the inaugural event on “The Promise of Electrification,” convened thought leaders from industry, policymakers, and engineers to address topical questions about electrification. At the event, Saifur Rahman, 2023 IEEE President and CEO, emphasized the need for unconventional thinking in tackling electrification challenges. The recording of the session is available here

The second episode in the series “The Impact of AI, Blockchain and other Frontier Technologies on Climate,” was organized on 11 October. The event explored how frontier technologies such as AI, blockchain, or immersive reality can contribute to tackling climate goals with disruptive solutions and, at the same time, have their own impact on climate. Jyotika Athavale, 2023 President-Elect of IEEE Computer Society provided insights on how “technology will evolve from sustainable IT to novel uses of IT for sustainability, clean energy, and a green economy.” Watch the recording of the session here.

ITCC and Reuters Events have scheduled further webinars on the contribution of technology to climate goals, with upcoming themes in the webinar series including:

  • The Progress on the Green Digital Transformation (November 2023)
  • The Technical Workforce for a Sustainable Future (December 2023)
  • The Practical and Scalable Implementation of a Circular Economy (January 2024)
  • The Role of Data And Technology in Climate Reporting (February 2024)
