On September 28th, 2023, there was a live dedication ceremony at the STMicroelectronics site in Grenoble, France for the award of the prestigious IEEE milestone recognizing the development by STMicroelectronics of the MPEG-2 integrated decoders. As the Milestone cites subsequent MPEG-2 worldwide adoption made compressed full-motion video and audio inexpensive and available for everyday use.

The historic event featured the award presentation and plaque unveiling accompanied by testimonials from key ST people behind these developments, IEEE representatives, and Leonardo Chiariglione who founded the MPEG standardization group directing the development of some 200 MPEG standards.
