The Congress

The IEEE Jordan Students and Young Professionals Congress – JSYP is the largest student event in Jordan. It occurs yearly and gathers both students and young professionals members from all of the Jordan Section.

The first edition was held in 2012, and the scale of the event has been growing ever since, attracting more attendees, worldwide known speakers, and more national and international companies and organizations supporting it.

JSYP Goals

The primary goal of the JSYP Congress is to enhance and foster the engineering sense and capabilities through different activities, exchanging experience and knowledge between young professionals and students from different parts of Jordan. The social activities during the Congress are a great networking opportunity to start national collaborations.

Another goal is to provide the opportunity for students and the industry to get in touch with each other, so decisions or plans for a career, later on, can be made and guidance and advice for students can be given. Participants can take advantage of the event program tailored to the core goals of IEEE, focusing personal and professional growth altogether expanding their IEEE network of contacts and friendships.

The Host

The JSYP 2018 was hosted by Al-Balqa Applied University , under the patron of Prof. Adel Altwiesi – Minister of Higher Education and Research-Jordan.

Region 8 Professional activities has participated in JSYP 2018 Congress that was held in Amman – Jordan on 15-16 Sept, 2018.

This year, it was the largest ever congress held in Jordan and there were more than 500 participants.

Dr. Hafidh AlSamarrai

JSYP requested the participation of Dr. Hafidh AlSamarrai – CEO of GBD and Growth Inc. from R8 professional activities to deliver a keynote speech. The speech was on “ How to move from Academia to Consultancy” .

Dr. AlSamarrai’s presentation included several topics on the similarities and differences between the work in academia and consultancy. He has emphasized the idea that the importance is not moving to consultancy and how to do that, it is rather to select the most suitable carrier for the person. Examples were given and the experiences of some people who already moved from academia to consultancy were sighted.

He has made the presentation interactive and therefor designed several questionnaire before the presentation on the preferences of the people and prepared the results in the form of graphs.

As a final remark he presented how to find out the personality type by using different models and showed examples and concluded by showing IEEE’s code of  ethics and stating that being ethical is the most important issue in selecting a carrier, working in it abiding with its requirements.
