IEEE is committed to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. This is not limited to research or standards development only.
IEEE shows its humanitarian and philanthropic side through various specified programs, focusing on solving real-life problems and offering to the community through its resources technical solutions for a better life.
Two of these programs are IEEE HAC and IEEE SIGHT
Specifically, “The IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) provides a suite of resources that inspire and enable IEEE volunteers around the world to carry out and support impactful humanitarian technology and sustainable development activities at the local level.” Additionally IEEE HAC “aims to support many impactful humanitarian technology and sustainable development projects with local communities around the world. As such, the committee not only provides funding to support projects, but also devotes resources to impact assessment”.
IEEE SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) is “A global network of IEEE volunteers partnering with underserved communities & local organizations to leverage technology for sustainable development”.
IEEE HAC and SIGHT Projects Join Forces against COVID-19
As described “The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world in an unprecedented manner, and as such, HAC has adapted its requirements to better enable IEEE volunteers to contribute. For that reason, HAC and SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) Projects will join forces to prioritize proposals that have a strong potential for immediate impact in the fight against COVID-19. Ideally, projects will have good connections with local IEEE OUs and engage a significant number of IEEE members”.
With the global interest being focused on COVID-19 outcomes and its negative effects, IEEE joins forces on two humanitarian projects, and calls its volunteers and members to submit their proposals related to COVID-19 until May 15 2020.
Everyone interested to submit a proposal, may find all details at the COVID-19 Projects Funding Opportunities.
