It always feels great when your hard work gets recognized! It feels even better to nominate a well deserving person or team for an award.

IEEE Region 8 offers a number of awards. Awards to the Chapters are among some of the most prestigious awards offered, as the technology drive is a critical part of IEEE’s success and also because there are nearly 1,000 Chapters in R8 right now.

If you feel that a technical Chapter or a Student Branch Chapter in your Section has done outstandingly well, please consider nominating it for a prestigious Region 8 (Europe, Middle East and Africa) award. This opportunity comes once a year only, and now is the time!

The awards “IEEE Region 8 Chapter of the Year Award” and “IEEE Region 8 Student Branch Chapter of the Year Award” are intended to recognize the outstanding performance of Region 8 Chapters in serving their members and the technical community at large and establishing goodwill within and between the Region 8 Sections. Any active single or joint Society, Council or Student Branch Chapter of Region 8 is eligible for the award(s).

The selection is based on the performance of the nominated Chapter, reflected by the completed nomination form and supporting documents. In selecting award recipients, the relevant awards ad-hoc committee considers contributions of the nominee to chapter activities.

Nomination and Selection Procedure

To be considered as a nominee, a form must be completed describing activities and associated contributions made by the nominee in the activity period January 01, 2019 through December 31, 2019. The activities should also be presented with appropriate supporting documents, e.g. meeting programs, newsletters, councils/societies’ newsletter articles, pictures, social media posts or webpages covering the activities.

The nomination must be endorsed by the Section Chair (although the form may be prepared by someone else, e.g. one of Chapter leaders). You can find the current Chair of your Section by using IEEE vTools Officers, IEEE Roaster, IEEE OU Analytics or at your Section’s website. The Section Chair (or a designated section authority) is kindly requested to submit the completed nomination form and upload supporting documents online (showing the evidence of events held).

The Process of Nomination is Simple

  1. Log in (create an account if needed) via the FluidReview link provided at: https://ieeer8.org/category/awards/r8-awards/chapter-of-the-year-awards/
  2. Click on the “Create New submission” button (you may want to do several nominations in several categories and switch between them)
  3. Click on “Region 8 Award Nomination Form”
  4. Select the award type (one at a time)
  5. Complete all the entries required (re. Nomination, Nominator etc.)
  6. Upload documentation/proof (whatever may be needed in 5.)
  7. Go into your submission and Download submission (on the right-hand side of the screen)
  8. Click on “Submit Nomination”

The submission portal for IEEE Region 8 awards will be open only from July 15, 2020 until the strict submission deadline: August 31, 2020.
